Welcome to Sunset School
|
Grade-Level Teams: |
Sunset School is one of two campuses for grades 4-7 in the Coos Bay School District. We have 464 students among our four grade levels. We are committed to creating a safe and respectful learning environment for each of our Sunset Dolphins.
Our 4th – 6th grade students are in self-contained classrooms, much like a traditional elementary school. 7th graders change classes for math, science, language arts, social studies, music, and physical education with content-area specialists. We are proud to have a school that has the community feeling of an elementary and the flexibility of a middle school. Please check our Staff Directory to link to your student’s teachers and stay tuned to our website for current information about our school. |

Principal’s Pad
Principal’s Pad – January 26, 2012
As we wrap up the first semester of our school year, it means different things to different students. When I talked with the students in our morning assembly I’ve mentioned a couple different things this week. First, I think we’ve had more issues with negative interactions among students the last week or two than we’ve had the rest of the school year. I want our students to make it very important to treat one another in a positive way. Many of our students demonstrate kindness and support for one another several times a day. The other thing is that the end of the semester or grading period can be a stressful time for students if they wished they had worked a little harder or are worried about their grades. Next Monday, we start a new semester and it is, in a way, a fresh start. I encouraged our students to set some goals for the second semester and to work hard and do more than the minimum to be as great as they can be. Overall, I am extremely proud of our students, staff, and families at Sunset School. Thank you all for making our school a great place to learn!

School Closures or Delayed Starts
Coos Bay Public Schools will utilize the Synrevoice automated phone system to notify families of school closures, delayed starts and other emergencies.
In the event of a closure or delayed start, the automated system will be activated, usually by 6:00 am, and all families will be called and given the message. Included in the message will be a phone number that you can call to get a recorded update. Please be sure your contact information is correct at the schools.
The information will also be sent out to via Flash Alert to the media and posted on the district‘s website at www.cbd9.net. If you would like to receive Flash Alert notification, go to www.flashalert.net/news.html?id=1374. At that site, you can sign up to receive both text messages and e-mails for emergency alerts and news releases.
School Report Cards
School and District report cards are available for review on our District website at http://cbd9.net/curriculum/district-report-cards. The report cards provide an overview of how our schools and district performed last year. Information about how our district and schools compared to similar schools as well as the state is also included.
You will find valuable information about the strengths and weaknesses of our schools. However, it does not capture the spirit, passion, and dedication of the teachers and staff.
Please take a few minutes to review your school and district report cards. Printed copies are available at your child’s school. If you have any questions about your school’s report card, contact your child’s principal. If you have any questions about the district report card, contact Superintendent Dawn R. Granger at dawng@coos-bay.k12.or.us or 541-267-1310.
